Recording Tip:
Here are two valuable techniques that can be used for metal guitar.
First for rythum guitar. While tracking get duct tape and tape the lower strings if you are not using them. This prevents unwanted notes and noises from ringing out from the high E or B. I have seen many of the metal greats apply this technique. They are not gods in many cases and a lot of their sound and accuracy comes from cheating and tricks.
Second you have to be familiar with the bar beat clock of your home studio or at a professional studio. Most digital studios have them built in, if u don't know what this is read the manual or ask the engineer to explain. Second with your knowledge of the bar beat clock build a complete tempo map of the song. All this can be used for punching purposes. A solo can be punched seamlessly bar by bar using a digital bar beat clock. Ever single note can be plotted and super accurate. I have heard from a few insiders that the "Led Zepplin" of metal uses this method for every sinle note. You can see this if you load their music into pro tools or paris their bass drum hits are indvidually plotted and each one is sonically matched and perfect. Now obviously none of us have a staff of engineers charting notes but you should use punching to enhance your playing not just to fix mistakes.
