Metal Snare Eq Settings

Recording Tip:
Here are some settings and techniques for an Ulrich style snare. Use a 57 or any other decent mic and clip it one to two inches from snare. Record flat and use your channel eqs.

Ulrich style eq settings:
Boost 5.06khz by 9db
Cut Mids at 425khz by 5db set the sweep at .05
Cut Lows at 197khz by 3db
Apply a little hall reverb.

Vinnie Paul style snare eq settings:
Boost 5.20khz by 7db
Cut 451hz by 7db
Cut 102hz by 7db
Apply a large quanity of gated reverb or hall reverb set it for maximum depth.

The key factor for a metal snare is the 5khz boost this enhances the clarity and gives it the heaviness and snap. Also the key factor for any style snare is cutting the overabundant frequencies in the 100 to 200hz range.
