Awesome Older Metallica Distortion Sound

Recording Tip:
*First i use a Line-6 Spider 2-12" amp...

*Amp E.Q. settings = Using the Clean Amp Setting. Bass on 10, Mids on 1 (3 at the absolute most), High between 7 to 10 (depending on song or album, etc.)

*MT-2 Metal Zone Distortion Pedal settings = You want basically the same setup as the amp EQ. I have Bass on full, mids on zero, (only adjust mids on the amp EQ), High level at about half way, 7 at the most. you dont want full high on amp and distortion pedal. I use full distortion.

*This setting will give you a lot of the older Metallica sounds, like Ride The Lightning.

*Remember, playing at higher volume, you might have to turn the bass on the amp down a bit. with bass on the pedal and the amp on full, you can get a really crappy sound. the amp setting above is perfect for low volume practice.

*Metallica uses mostly amp distortion (Mesa/Boogie and Marshall) with studio quality EQs and processors to drop out a lot of the mids. Thats why i try to shy away from a lot of amp distortion, especially the Line-6 Insane setting. Its a good sound and you can get real crunch out of it, but its way too crunchy to get the sounds like Metallica and you can never quite get the High tones for soloing you can get with the Metal Zone...

*one bad thing about the Metal Zone= put the volume level on the pedal too high, you get ear piercing feedback... Thats why i recommend a good quality Noise Gate...
