Zakk Wylde (Guitarist)

Equipment Description and Setup:
Guitars:
Gibson Les Paul Customs with EMG81 in bridge and 85 in neck. Gibson Les Paul Classic EMG81 in bridge and Fernandes Sustainer Pickup in the neck.

Effects:
Dunlop Rotovibe, Jimi Hendrix Wah JH-1, Boss Super Overdrive, Boss Super Chorus

Amps:
Marshall JCM800's
Marshall 4x12 cabinets with 200 w Electro Voice Speakers

Notes:
Lee Jackson Perfect Connection GP1000 Preamp and Poweramp can be heard on early recordings with ozzy, No Rest for the Wicked, and occassionaly after that until Ozmosis. He also used an Ampeg VL1002 but not sure what recordings, if any, it was used on.

Now Zakk Wylde uses JCM800's modded by Lee Jackson. His amp settings are Bass - 10, mid - 3, highs - 10, presence - 2-3, preamp volume - 10, master volume - 6-7, than Boss SD1 all knobs set at 1 oclock except for drive which can be set at 2 oclock.

Equipment Description and Setup:
Also, Zakk uses:
GHS Strings 10 - 13 - 17 on the high end, then wound are 40-50-60, i think, I'm positive the low E is a 60 gauge string though. He uses Dunlop 1.35 mm picks.

Guitar is in standard tuning except low E string is detuned to D, B, A, or G (Counterfeit God)

Equipment Description and Setup:
Guitars -various Gibson Les Pauls

Pickups- only EMG 81 (bridge) and EMG 85 (neck) these are the only pickups he endorses and uses

Marshall 4x12 cabs ( a bunch of them as well) he used to use various Lee Jackson amps and pre-amps

effects- Dunlop Crybaby Wah, Dunlop Rotovibe, Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive (left on most of the time) 2 Boss CH-1 Super Chorus,Dunlop Uni-Vibe

Misc. GHS strings,Heavy picks,Puts strings over top the stop Tail piece on his Les Pauls.(he tells me it makes it makes it sound better,I think he is just BSing)!! Zakk tunes to standard 440 tuning unless he is in drop-D

*********Tips to get his sound ********
Set your JCM 800 like this,Presence-7or8,Master Vol.-doesn't matter,Reverb-6,Drive Bass-10,Drive Mid-2,Drive Treble-7,Drive Volume-10 Drive Gain-10,Clean Bass-10,Clean Treble -3,Clean Vol.set according to your liking.

effect settings-SD-1 Vol-1 o'clock,Tone-1 o'clock,Gain-2 o'clock CH-1 Effect level-as much as you like,EQ-2 o'clock,Rate-all the way down,Depth-all the way up

THis is how I get his sound with my gear.

Zakk uses alot of Pinch Harmonics so learn them .The EMG's will help make it easier to do them.
