Natural Repeats
Devices Used:
Echo Plex EP-3 Solid State, various effects and amps
Sound Description:
Natural tape roll off with everything from a fifties type slap (Stray Cats) to a Walsh or Page vintage echo. Eric Johnson uses two of these things, they can't be all that bad.
Settings:
The EP-3 Settings; Repeat Setting: about 10 o'clock (assuming runaway starts at about 12 - 1), Level: just shy of dry level,
Fast Repeat / Slap:
repeat: backed to just 3 or so echoes
time: about 5 - 7
This really has a nice roll-off, similar to echoes of the fifties. Jimmy Page also uses a setting similar to this. the digital stuff regardless of claims can't duplicate these sounds.
Very Usable and Layerable Medium Timed Echo;
repeat: backed to just 6 or so echoes
time: 23
Long Echo Great For Layering
repeat: backed to just 8 - 10 or so echoes
time: 35
If you ever heard Joe Walsh's solo in The Bomber off of James Gang Rides Again, this is it.
A tube EP would be great if you could find one. I personally would be interested in seeing the Early Tube Versions in a Re-Issue type production. They would probably be the hottest thing going.
I use the EP in my loop processor, my setup in order: TS-9, Boss GT-5 Pedal / Processor Controller (neatest new thing out - still experimenting, new settings to be listed), Ibanez Epp-400 loop processor, then sub effects in loops, Rat R2DU, Echoplex, Electric Mistress, Marshall Shred Master(Great Scoop), then Digitech 21 Legend, Digitech ISP-33, back thru loop then, Stereo Volume, 70's Silver Face Twin and Marshall 800 MKII 50W half.
Fender Twin set about; bright=on, treble=6, middle=5, bass=4. You may have to adjust some as I had made some slight mods on my twin.
Marshall Amp about; bass=9, mid=8, treb=4, pres=4, preamp in just at clip on a clean signal.
